Endeavour Elementary School

By: VCBOArch

Endeavour Elementary School is uniquely innovative. It architecturally supports a project-based curriculum utilizing multiple, flexible group activity spaces. The design incorporates “color-coded” classroom wings that break the student population into smaller groups, provide a sense of identity for students, and act as a navigation tool for visitors. The school divides students into four smaller groups each clustered around a central open space that offers a gathering area, daily access to technology, and space for learning activities. The building utilizes a playful and appealing astronomy theme with interior and exterior colors, signage, and flooring patterns that reinforce this idea. Each small learning community is named for a different galaxy which provides an additional layer of identity for students. Constellations in the floor tile enliven the circulation spaces. The prominently located media center features planetarium-like planets and moons. A scale model of the solar system is laid out graphically in the entry plaza.
